Matching your tie and pocket square ultimately comes down to personal taste. Whilst there are no rules, as a general guideline your pocket square should match some colours in either your shirt or tie. Your tie and pocket square need not match exactly, but rather compliment one another.

There is no wrong or right way to fold a pocket square, and we suggest you don't stick to just one type of fold either. Here are our top 3 folds.

Straight Fold

  • Lay your pocket square flat on the table.
  • Fold it in half, bringing the left side over to the right side.
  • Bring the bottom just below the top.
  • Fold the pocket square in thirds horizontally so that it can fit inside your jacket pocket.

One Point

  • Lay your pocket square flat on the table.
  • Fold the pocket square in half, so that the bottom corner meets the top corner. You should now have a triangle.
  • Fold the left corner to the centre and the right corner to the centre. You should now have a long rectangle with a point at the top.
  • Gently place inside your jacket pocket.

  • Lay your pocket square flat on the table.
  • Pinch the middle of the pocket square, allowing the folds to come in naturally.
  • With one hand holding the pocket square, use the other to gather it together and tuck the sides in.
